A tooth that is badly worn, broken or decayed can be beautifully restored with porcelain crowns from Dr. Root.
What Are Porcelain Crowns?
A dental crown is commonly referred to as a “cap.” After damage or decay is removed from a tooth, a porcelain crown is placed over it. It covers the entire tooth—from the gumline to the biting surface—to protect it from further damage.
Types of Crowns
Dr. Root offers a variety of crowns to provide aesthetically pleasing results. Based on your case, he will recommend the most durable and natural-looking solution. And he will explain your options.
All-porcelain crowns contain no metal. Porcelain can be altered and layered to achieve lifelike results. Crowns from Dr. Root mimic the variations in color and translucence of your natural teeth. No one will be able to distinguish them from your natural teeth.
Porcelain fused to metal
Crowns with a metal foundation provide maximum support and durability. They are often used on back teeth to withstand the forces of chewing and grinding. When Dr. Root uses them on front teeth, the metal in the margin of the crown is reduced so a layer of porcelain can be added. The porcelain margin helps to produce a lifelike restoration and prevents the metal foundation from showing through at your gumline.
Zirconium dioxide is an exceptionally strong ceramic that is sometimes described as ceramic steel. Some of the characteristics of zirconia crowns include:
- They are metal free, so there is virtually no risk of creating a reaction in people with metal allergies or sensitivities.
- They have a natural translucence to meet the needs of restoring your natural teeth.
- They are high strength.
On back teeth, Dr. Root will use monolithic zirconia—a crown or a bridge cast as a single unit for the highest strength. On back teeth, he will use zirconia veneered with porcelain for enhanced aesthetics.
These crowns are made of a high-strength lithium disilicate core overlaid with porcelain. They produce excellent color, translucence, and luster combined with high strength. You’ll receive aesthetically pleasing results that enhance your smile.

Crowns from a Cosmetic Dentist
Beautiful crowns aren’t automatic. The results you get depend on the skill of both the dentist and the ceramist. Dr. Root is a cosmetic dentist who is an artist. He has an eye for beauty and produces crowns that match the color, characteristics, and translucence of your natural teeth.
Dr. Root is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. And his master ceramist is Takayoshi Nishihata of Valcaria, FL. Mr. Nishihata is passionate about dental aesthetics and only accepts certain dentists as his clients; Dr. Root is one of them.
When you receive porcelain crowns from Dr. Root, you will experience his concern for your long-term oral health, preserving your natural teeth, and ensuring your restorations last. He will tell you how to take care of your restorations. If you receive all-ceramic crowns, he’ll recommend that you wear a customized nightguard to protect them.
The comment below from one of our patients reflects the sentiments we regularly hear. We’ll work hard to ensure your dental experience is equally positive.
I loved the way everything was fully explained to me and the fact that Dr. Root was willing to try a more conservative approach to my issue rather than extract teeth like my prior dentist wanted to do. I would highly recommend Dr. Root and his staff to anyone! They truly care about their patients.” – Terri H.
