Joli, Chief Office Administrator, Certified Dental Assistant
Joli —pronounced Yoli— is the first generation in her family to be raised in the United States. Her parents immigrated here from Poland and we’re thrilled to have them here. She and her husband moved to Florida and Joli joined the Root Dental team in 1998. She began her career with us as a certified dental assistant and is now the chief office administrator. One of the most satisfying parts of her job is finding solutions for patients. She also holds a BS in Special Education and dedicates time to mentoring children in the community. When she’s not working, Joli and her husband enjoy nature and travel, taking day trips to the beach, area springs, and state parks. For longer vacations, they love going to the Carolinas, Utah, and seeing extended family in Chicago. Joli and her husband are enjoying their empty nest years and all the activities they now get to do.
Sandy, Business Administrator
Sandy was born and raised in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, but she has lived in places from coast to coast. She has more than 40 years’ experience as an administrator and has been in the dental profession since 2003. She relocated to Vero Beach in 2013 and joined Root Dental in November 2014. She loves coming to work because of her excellent boss and lovely co-workers. Her favorite part of her job is when she sees patients end their appointments with a smile on their face. Sandy loves her family and has one son and one cat. An outdoorswoman, she loves the beach and small-town feel of Vero. When she is not working, you may spot Sandy at the beach or out listening to live music.
Tina, Certified Dental Assistant
Tina was born in Vero Beach but was raised on the gulf coast of Mississippi. She returned to Indian River County as a young adult. She has served Dr. Root and his patients since she became a Certified Dental Assistant in 2003. When asked what she loves about her job, Tina said, “The older we get, the quality of our living revolves around fellowshipping with others over meals. Helping people restore their chewing function is important to me.” I like to create a comfortable experience when a patient is in a dental chair. Her areas of certification include dental radiography, expanded functions, biomedical waste control, and CPR. As Dr. Root’s lead assistant, Tina manages clinical functions: she reviews and authenticates dental charts for optimal patient care, tracks lab cases, and orders supplies. She loves the bond that develops with patients and looks forward to caring for you and your specific needs. As the proud mother of two adopted children, she enjoys giving back to the community whenever she can. In her free time, she loves driving her 4 wheel drive side by side in the woods with her children, sunbathing on her stand up paddle board, and service work with her friends.
Nicole is a Registered Dental Hygienist and has been with Root Dental since 2012. She is also a wife, mother of three, certified stand-up paddle board instructor, Special Olympics surf and SUP coach, and certified yoga instructor with a passion for working with people (Whew!) Originally from New Jersey, she has lived in Florida for more than 14 years. “I have been fortunate to be a member of the Root Dental Team since 2012. I thoroughly enjoy caring for people and helping them find ways to care for themselves. Within this practice, I have been able to build many personal and professional relationships with my patients and coworkers. Because of this, I am one of those people who can say I love my job!”
Alexa, Dental Assistant
Alexa grew up in Vero Beach and loves how easy it is to get where you want. Since childhood, she looked forward to going to the dentist and knew she wanted to work in the dental field when she was an adult. She graduated from Indian River State College with an AS in Dental Assisting and has worked in the field since 2010. She loves working with Dr. Root and the staff and how welcoming and helpful everyone is with one another. What she finds most satisfying is helping patients smile more. “I love that you can change something a patient doesn’t like about their teeth and they start smiling more because they’ve gained confidence.” Alexa is close with her family and has two sisters. She and her husband have a very spoiled dog named Remi. In her spare time, she loves anything to do with water and spends a lot of time boating, both river and air. When she’s land-bound she loves running, biking, and taking trips.
Karen, Dental Hygienist
Dentistry is Karen’s passion. She’s worked in the field since High School. Her first job was working with her Orthodontist. It’s what made her fall in love with the field. She loves working with people and finds it particularly satisfying when she is able to take a nervous patient and completely put them at ease. In fact, Karen is known for her gentle hands. She grew up in both the Northwest Florida area as well as Vero Beach, where she spent her summers during her childhood years. She still loves the area, especially all the retirees who have such amazing and interesting stories. Karen has one daughter and she competes nationally in Olympic style weightlifting.
Tamra, Business Administrator
When her son was a year old, Tamra had just separated from the Air Force and was looking for a new direction. She heard about a Red Cross Dental Assisting Training Program at her local base. She enjoyed it and embarked on a new career. That was 1990. Since then, she’s moved on to managing large clinics and now working in a private practice with Dr. Root. She loves watching patients blossom and gain confidence as their smile improves. Tamra is married with one adult son and a kitty she adopted from the Humane Society of Vero Beach. Originally from Arkansas, she and her husband recently moved to the Vero Beach area. They’re loving the proximity to water and consider it a kayaking paradise.
